"Oh, you know. All of this talk about nobles wandering around here...spies, I think I've been told. With Beltane coming up, I suppose it should be quite busy, though I've found I've had much more free time than usual."
Adina smiled brightly. "I suppose that does make for a rather odd day. Not the spies so much as the nobles. Nobles are an oddity indeed. Do you have any idea why they're running rampant in the Lower City?"

"I suppose that does make for a rather odd day. Not the spies so much as the nobles. Nobles are an oddity indeed. Do you have any idea why they're running rampant in the Lower City?"
Once again Markkus shifted position.
"No, actually...Not yet, anyways. It's new news to me - I haven't heard anything like this before today."
Markkus observed Adina carefully again. She looked so tired...He genuinely thought she needed sleep. As the crowd near the large game of cards made a loud noise, he glanced over to their direction.
"You were playing cards, weren't you?" he pointed out.

"No, actually...Not yet, anyways. It's new news to me - I haven't heard anything like this before today."
"Nobles, I've given up trying to understand them." Adina declared, raising her water glass.
"You were playing cards, weren't you?"
"Ah, yes. I figured I'd better leave with what money I'd already won. I would go back, but I doubt I'd do nearly as well as before, and what a letdown that would be."
She laughed, still feeling lightheaded, despite her water.
"Why, were you thinking of joining the game?"

Markkus laughed lightly with Adina. As he saw she was getting another water, Markkus decided he would give in and get himself another ale.
"Another ale," he said quietly to the bartender as the man came over to hand Adina a fresh glass.
The bartender simply gave a short nod.
"Why, were you thinking of joining the game?"
"Uh...thinking of it, actually," he admitted. He didn't want to just desert Adina, as she was feeling lightheaded, and going back to the card table probably wouldn't help her. "I'm still a bit unsure, though...I don't have too much money on me at the moment."

Adina glanced up as she heard Markkus order another ale. As the bartender caught her eye, she thought she noticed him sniff as if in distain of her inablility to hold the ales she'd had.
"I'm still a bit unsure, though...I don't have too much money on me at the moment."
"If you'd like to go for a round, I'd advise finding a softer table than the one I came from. I tell you. Those card players were out for blood. If you go, I may join you, not to play, but to watch perhaps..." she trailed off as she watched a group or rushers compare loot.
"They look like they've got their pockets full," She commented. "I take it pickings have been sucessful, particularly with all these nobles wandering the Lower City, though I must say, I haven't seen as many men and women paying bribes lately."

Markkus grabbed his tankard off the table, taking a gulp.
"If you'd like to go for a round, I'd advise finding a softer table than the one I came from. I tell you. Those card players were out for blood. If you go, I may join you, not to play, but to watch perhaps..."
"Well, if I play, I'll let you know. I suppose you'd be able to tell of course," he joked, not sure if she was listening.
"They look like they've got their pockets full..."I take it pickings have been sucessful, particularly with all these nobles wandering the Lower City, though I must say, I haven't seen as many men and women paying bribes lately."
"That may be so, but the fuller the pocket, the easier it is to pick them for ourselves. I've also heard a burst of some new Dogs showing up around here. We'll want to watch our backs, of course. You never know when a Dog may bite," he joked again.
He remembered Adina's comment on bribes. He hadn't seen anyone paying bribes for the past few days, himself.

"Well, if I play, I'll let you know. I suppose you'd be able to tell of course,"
Adina gave a small laugh. "Yes, I suppose I would...Please, don't stay away on my account."
She brushed a stray hair out of her eyes. For some reason she was feeling strangely unkempt.
"That may be so, but the fuller the pocket, the easier it is to pick them for ourselves. I've also heard a burst of some new Dogs showing up around here. We'll want to watch our backs, of course. You never know when a Dog may bite,"
She smiled at his joke, sobering after a moment. "What do you know of the Dogs? I've yet to run into them this month, and quite frankly wouldn't care to get on the wrong side of them."

"What do you know of the Dogs? I've yet to run into them this month, and quite frankly wouldn't care to get on the wrong side of them."
Markkus thought for a moment. "Not much, but what I've heard of their skill level, it doesn't worry me. They seem weaker than usual. Like the spies, actually."
Another loud cry from the card tables made Markkus jump. He took another drink of ale, leaving the tankard half empty. He glanced over to them again, hoping they'd shut up.
((No problems. Mine's short too xPP Get Tink to come here to liven it up again!))

Most people would be bothered by going down to deeper Lower City, especially after dark. Sahele didn't suffer from the slightest amount of fear or nerves. He just walked along, whistling a tune he'd learned with the Players, with Tiny trotting along by his side. It was unsurprising that he didn't get into any trouble--most who weren't intimidated by his considerable size were concerned with the large dog following him.
His troupe had sent him out to pay the monthly dues to the Rogue. He hadn't been before, but he was fairly good with directions, so he went alone.
This explained why he wasn't sure how to get into the Court of the Rogue building. They'd failed to mention where you entered--the back door, the side door, maybe even the boarded up window on the front. After about five minutes of standing there like an idiot, Tiny panting heavily by his side, he simply opened the back door.
This seemed to be the right thing to do, since no one stopped what they were doing to stare at him. He walked in and realized he had no idea who to talk to, and besides that: there was an entire troupe's bribe money in his pocket and he was standing in a room full of theives.
Wincing slightly at his own lack of planning, he looked around the room. It was smoky and not well lit; there were two badly-dressed Rogues kissing in a corner. Over on another side, there was a card table and several Rogues gambling. Not even Sahele was about to go over in that direction; they were all tough-looking and he was trying to avoid a fight.
The bar seemed like a much friendlier idea. There was ale there, after all. Two Rogues talking were off to the side, away from the scary ones; they were approachable. He ordered a drink and made his way over to them. Tiny followed, seeming unperturbed by the mass of Rogues.
"'Scuse me," he said to the doxie who was chatting up the man next to her. Then, when she turned to look at him, he realized he wasn't sure what to say, either. After a minute of his brain trying to decide, an unimpressive sentance popped out: "...er, I got bribe money."

"Not much, but what I've heard of their skill level, it doesn't worry me. They seem weaker than usual. Like the spies, actually."
"I hope you're right." Adina said, thoughtfully. She wasn't particularly fond of the Dogs, though she did like the ones who thought leave well enough alone.
"'Scuse me,"
Adina turned to see a tall, young man. She tipped her head back to see him more closely; he was attractive enough if slightly lost looking. Taking a moment to give him an admiring glance, she cocked her head lightly to show she was listening, the strange, dizzy feeling still present.
"...er, I got bribe money."
She swung around on her stool to look at the man more closely, leaning herself against the bar, trying to dim the spinning feeling that the last tankard had left her with.
"Eh, I suppose bribe money's as good as any other money. How much have ya got?" She asked, not really in the mood for doing buisness.

"I hope you're right."
Markkus only got to nod in reply as a young man walked nearby them. He looked a bit nervous and uncomfortable. It was hard to tell who he was. Not a Rogue, certainly not a noble...His eyebrows wrinkled in thought.
"...er, I got bribe money."
Markkus was about to say something in reply when Adina cut in.
"Eh, I suppose bribe money's as good as any other money. How much have ya got?"
"I'll be taking the bribe money. But uh, yes...how much?"
Markkus wondered if that was all the young man was there for. It seemed to be so, though the fact was a bit disheartening. There were new people around everywhere he went, and Markkus planned to know them all. Hopefully there would be a chance to he stir a conversation that would give him a bit of information about the man before him.
((Ughs...still short))

"Eh, I suppose bribe money's as good as any other money. How much have ya got?"
Frowning, and not understanding for a minute, Sahele stood there, and then it hit him. About to reply and tell the doxie that he was not about to spend the bribe money on a doxie--he didn't even spend his own money on doxies--but suddenly the cove next to her spoke up.
"I'll be taking the bribe money. But uh, yes...how much?"
Sahele eyed him, suddenly suspicious. He hadn't suspected someone to just up and volunteer. Without hostility, he asked, "How am I to know that it gets where it needs to go?" One hand guarded the purse at his belt, in a way that was unoffensive and unnoticeable. "I wouldn't want the bribe money to get lost on the way." He grinned, looking down at the man. Tiny snuffled around the other man's feet.

"How am I to know that it gets where it needs to go? I wouldn't want the bribe money to get lost on the way."
Markkus grinned. He thought this man would recognize him, but it was apparent that he did not. Maybe the bribe money wasn't supposed to be going to him. He took a gulp of ale before speaking.
"If the bribe money is to go the King of the Rogue, I am most positive the money will go into the right hands."
Hoping that the man would understand, he quickly added, "Who's the money from, anyways?"
Markkus looked down as he saw a rather large dog sniffing at his pant leg. Markkus looked back up to the man.
"Eh...do you mind?" he said, gesturing to the dog who Markkus was trying to escape from. He didn't mind animals, but unfamiliar ones with no controls were not the kind of creatures he wanted around him.

"If the bribe money is to go the King of the Rogue, I am most positive the money will go into the right hands."
Sahele raised an eyebrow. This Rogue was clearly one of those who would dance around a fact. Whatever he said would be a riddle. Sahele figured he had two options: could either take him at his word, or he could figure out what the other man was hiding.
It wasn't much of a choice. "Who's the money from, anyways?" Sahele looked at the cove again. He had spoken extremely quickly, not looking at him, but at Tiny, who was appearing very interested in the other man's pant leg. The cove seemed to have noticed it too, and said, "Eh...do you mind?"
"Squeak. Down. Do your business elsewhere." Tiny, who probably would have emptied his bladder on the Rogue's pant leg if left to his own devices, woofed at him a little and trotted away, and then out the door.
Sahele leaned against the bar, looking at the man. "I'm not sure how much I can tell you," he said bluntly. "It's a delicate subject, bribes. I don't know whose hands I'm passing a lot of money into, and I don't know where that money's going. What's more is, I don't know where this information's gonna go. If you get my drift."

"I'll be taking the bribe money. But uh, yes...how much?"
Adina raised her eyebrows, surprised by Markkus' intervention. She propped her head up on her palm, only half listening to the conversation. She eyed the young man and his dog with interest; they were both unfamiliar, which wasn't all that surprising. There were constantly new people arriving and leaving the Rogue.
"It's a delicate subject, bribes. I don't know whose hands I'm passing a lot of money into, and I don't know where that money's going. What's more is, I don't know where this information's gonna go. If you get my drift."
She tossed her head lightly, deciding to step in and help the man. "Delicate subject is it? Don't worry, I deal quite well with those." She cast her eyes down for a moment, trying to hide the fact that tossing her head had caused her to feel unusually sick. When Adina was convinced that she felt ready to continue talking, she looked up.
"Trust me, if you're worried that news will get out that you've been here; well, let me say that I have yet to have gotten anyone into trouble." She trailed off, meaningfully.
