Physical Description:
Theo is six feet three inches; it is a trait he got from his family. Almost everybody, other than his sister, is tall in his family. Theo has a normal body weight, same as most of the men of his age. He is not skinny, but not fat either. He has deep tan skin, darker than most people in Tortall. That is mostly because him in the sun all the time, riding and fighting. Maybe a lttle bit came from his old Raka genes on his mother's side, but that was very little. His great-grandmother was part- or quater- Raka.
Theo’s eyes are normal, with nothing special about them. They are deep brown, with a black circle in the middle. There is a bold black boundary outside the brown circle that surrounds the black dot. The brown part in his eyes looks like a paper that had been crushed, for the lines that can be seen in it. However, his eyes look black most of the time, as if a transparent black glass covers them. Only when inspected, that is when light is thrown on them, they appear brown and black. To most people, Theo is a black eyed knight.
Theo’s face is oval with sort of a square chin, not considered admirable by most. His cheek bones are not high and beautiful either, but are rather in place, not adding anything good to his appearence. He has short brown hair, up to his ear lobes. The knight hates it when hair comes into his eyes and gets a hair cut often. He also has a small nose, and is often teased for it. Theo’s feet are small compared to most of the people of his age, adding on to the joke-insults people tell him. His legs, though, are long making him a good runner. Theo has halfway full lips, something he thinks are feminine and does not want to acquire. His lashes are of a normal size, much different from his brothers. Both Julian and Louis have long lashes that they praise and admire, but Theo likes his to be shorter than his brothers. The knight considers long lashes girlish.
Theo is more of a 'comfortable clothing' person. He likes wearing lose clothes rather than the close fitting ones. His regular clothes are shirts and breeches. Theo also wears soft and comfortable boots that cover half of his shin. Deep Ocean blue being his favorite colors most of his tunics and shirts. Some of his tunics are green and yellow and very few orange. His shirts that are not deep blue end up being light sky blue or plain white. His pants and breeches are either black or brown and boots are always black and comfortable, soundless too.
Personality:
Theo is quite rash. He has a temper and is not very good with people. He refuses to let anybody stronger harm a weaker person. His stubborn nature does not let him give up on anything. Theo is also not very outgoing. He generally keeps to himself, rather than ranting into front of others. Theo usually quiet, but not when he is made fun of. Then he fights and often gets injured. Theo is more comfortable with horses than with people. He has very few close friends to whom he lets his heart out. To make friends with him, people have to come to him. He never goes to other, with a huge ego. Some who take the trouble to come to him, he tries to be friendly them. To gain his friendship they have to wait. Most just leave him, but some who do stay and wait end up having a good friend, who they can trust, and that is exactly what Theo expects from his friends. Only when he thinks that they won't let his secrets out, he would confide in them. That is genrally what takes time with Theo. He does not trust people very easily, and prefers to know more about them before he actually spends time with them.
He also can be annoying at times as he sometimes converts peaceful talks into debates. He never allows anyone to force him to do anything. He is a man of his own wants and will not work under anyone, unless it is a commander in war. Tantrums are also present in this knight as he wants work to be done his way. He might even leave work in the middle if his brain gets hot.
Theo also possesses dignity and pride. If people don’t want him there, that is don’t talk to him or break of their conversation at his approach, he leaves them immediately rather than trying to make friends. Not that he often approaches people. Theo often keeps to himself, his happiness and his sadness.
Theo is helpful and welcoming when people come to him, as already stated. He is ready to help, even though he is not talkative, just that people have to ask him for help. He generally does not offer a hand. Some call it shyness, while others say it is ego. Theo does not know what it is, but he not going to change himself just for some other people. He is what he is, with pride, dignity, ego and few friends, but he is okay with it, no matter what others' say.
However, when Theo himself needs help, he is not very comfortable with going to people and asking for it, again for his shyness and ego. Though he does need help like everybody. Theo’s determination can be counted as one of his good traits. When he decided to do something, he always does. He also has a good amount of will power, which all knights have as without it none of them could stand the chamber of ordeal.
Theo is not one of the popular people, but he is known for his nature. He is good hearted and helpful. Even though Theo is not very charming he is good with weaponry. He likes horses more than any other animals and used to spend a lot of time in the stables, when he is in Kel's Ridge. However, in Corus, Theo keeps to his own horse, Thunder, without disturbing others'.
History:
Theo is the third son in his family. He has two older brothers and one sister. Theo is favored by his older brothers and sister, but he loves his oldest brother the most. Julian had always been there to help him and look after him. Theo had always admired his older brother and when he was two he saw him go into knighthood he decided to do the same. When Theo was three his mother died due to serious illness. After about 7 or 8 months his father re-married. His mother's death seemed to nothing for his father. Only his brothers, sister and Theo himself, seemed to be affected by it.
Lady Clare, their step-mother, mostly cared about herself. She gave little attention to the two boys and the little girl. When Theo told this to his father, the lord believed his new wife more than his son, which resulted in hatred for his step-mother. Since Theo's father was on Clare's side, Theo's sole caretaker and family was his older brother, Louis. Theo and Louis together took care of their younger sister. After a year of his father's marriage, Theo was joined by two younger sisters. One of the twins, Denise, died a few days after her birth. Their step-mother locked herself in her room for days pretending to be sad, but Theo knew it was just drama. It was clear to everybody in the fort that the lady had been pretending as, whenever the Lord was not at home or was gone for a trip for a few days, Clare would forget her grief and make merry. The day the Lord would return, she would go back to her 'sad mother' role.
Theo's life had been like any normal boy's would be. He played with some villagers, but mostly wandered around alone. He spent a lot of time in the stables. The only person Theo really talked to was Louis. Even though Theo loved his oldest brother more than Louis, he and Louis seemed to be good friends.
Theo had always been extra excited for summer as his older brother came to visit their family during the vacation. He told Theo stories about the palace. Theo seemed to be deep in thoughts for days after his sibling left for the palace. He thought about becoming a knight himself.
When Theo was seven his older brother, Louis, shocked the family but refusing to go to the palace. Louis wanted to go to the university instead. Theo supported his brother and three years after that he himself left for knight-training.
Theo’s life as a page and then as a squire was normal. Through this he made one true friend, one he trusted more that anybody, excluding his brothers. This boy was Bryce of X. They played and had fun, they even studied together. Now, he was like any other boy page, with a true friend. Though he got punished a lot as he could not tolerate bullies. Training, Training and more training was the objective of Theo’s life. The desire to be the best page in his year was what gave Theo the power to practice continuously. Hard work, unmoved devotion and love for what he wanted made his dreams come true. Determined to prove to his training masters that he was the best urged him to do every little chore and give every second of his free time to training. Sweating and sore, that is how he ended up each day. His not returning to his fief in the summers did him good too. In the summer the page spent time learning new tricks of fighting from knights, trainers, guards and all those he could find available. He wanted to show the world that he didn’t care about anything, but the badge of the best page. His father sent him some letter ordering him to return home, but Theo never replied to them, just threw them. Not receiving a reply from his son, Durand was advised by Julian to let him go, and that is what he did, even when he didn’t want to. His teachers on the other were rather happy that he stayed. Some of them didn’t really care about him as they though Theo was proud and that he thought himself to be perfect, but those that did like him, his training master, were pleased that he stayed. Some other boys stayed as well, so Theo was not lonely in the page’s wing. In four years in the palace, he finally fulfilled the dream he had worked for. Theo did prove to be the best page. Archery was the art, this page was best at. Longbows his favorite and crossbow, he liked it too. Then was the dagger and knife, his second best weapon, thanks to the guards and some knights. Sword was something he wasn’t very good at, but his determination for being the best knight, forced him to practice with his day and night. He couldn’t perfect his sword in his page years, but was sure that he could do it before his ordeal.
Four years passed, and Theo finally was a squire. The first offer Theo got was from Sir Romuluas of X. Romuluas was a brave knight and great warrior. He trained Theo to near perfection. He wanted his squire could handle a sword as good as the bow, but that never happened. Theo never gained the same perfection he had with the bow, in the sword. Theo’s skills reached their peeks under Romuluas. He still wasn’t a good swordsman, but was certainly much better that he was as a page. His archery also improved. Romuluas also thought him how to use and lance and staffs. That was when Theo came to know that he couldn’t handle the staff either. Rather sad at this, he tried to do better at other things. Jousting, archery competitions were entered by Theo as well as his knight master. The money Theo earned, he gave to his beloved knight master who taught him everything he needed to know. The squire also learnt how to use double blade axes. He is not excellent with the axes and staffs but can use them. His attacking style completely changed under Romuluas. For this, he again had to work very hard. Many times through this the thought of returning back to his fief occurred to him, but the squire just shoved it off. He was not going to give up, no matter what. He practiced to match his companion’s skills, and to master the styles the knight taught him. A fire started under him from the words of brave Romuluas. With utter courage and determination, Theo was sure he could be a good knight. He had learnt to fight and now he would use his skills for Tortall.
Life as a squire was hard, but Theo lived through it. Finally when the long years passed and the day came, the day Theo had waited for all his life. The day he was to take his ordeal. He spent the night in the chamber, like any other knight and then fought the chamber without uttering a word, as the rules said. Completing his ordeal and being knighted, Theo had only one more thing to do: go home for a visit. He didn’t want to visit his step mother, uncaring father, but he did want to meet Julian, his brother and now the lord of Kel’s Ridge and his step-sister Juliana. His family does miss him, but Julian understands his better than others and know that Theo will never forget him. He lets Theo live his own life, and do what he wants. Since Louis lived in Corus, Theo often visited his scholar brother. Finally finding the courage to go home, Theo left Corus in May. He spent two months in the fort at his Fief, returning in August. Since then, Theo is in the capital. He lives in the palace among some other knights, but does wishes to have his own home somewhere in the upper city. He and his love, Lady Adelaide, once married, might stay at the palace or leave. It all depends on the future.
Role Play Sample:
Theo had enough in the last few days. His head was throbbing, as he groaned in pain. The man sat on the pavement on the street. The evening was there, but due to the heat and summer sun, it looked more like a day. The moon was pushing the sun and making its way into the sky. It tried harder and harder to defeat the sun, but the big fire ball wouldn't just give in. The sun replied back with a growl, as the light brightened, persuading Theo to cover his eyes, but, the moon wasn't a coward either as it fought back. The coolness and the shine of the beautiful moon and the heat of the glowing star colored the world around Theo. The fight of the mysterious moon and the challenging sun gave him the power to go to the Dancing Dove. Walking slow, slower than usual the rogue made his way into the Inn after at least half an hour, or maybe more as Theo had lost the track of time.
Not wanting anything more than a casual evening, he looked for an empty and dry spot, without much of liveliness. Theo was fun, but now, no he just wanted to relax. Making himself comfortable on a chair and spreading his legs under the table the knight snapped his fingers, calling the waitress. He acted as if he was the most important man the old Inn, even when he probably was a 'no-one'. A redheaded girl actually saw him and his tired face and immediately left the conversation she was into in order to attend him. Surprised at the bar-maid's reaction, Theo straighten and finally smiled. "Can you get me a mug of cider?" Digging his hands deep into his pockets, he offered the maid a copper coin- the price his drink and some extra tip for the girl. He was grateful to her, for her attention. He was tired and most probably would have had to wait for fifteen minutes before anyone took his order.
Shaking his head and rubbing his right shin on top of his left one the knight slightly smiled at the redhead who had come back with his mug of cider. A small nod was what he gave her as she kept the glass mug down. His callused hands wrapped around the mug, and he raised it to his lips, taking in the cider and easing his brain nerves.
A small smile spread across his face as the cider did its work. Removing his hand from the, now, half full mug, Theo looked across the room. His eyes in search of another waitress or the same one again. His luck, the redhead was still there and came to him almost immediately. The knight ordered something to eat as he took out a couple more coins from his belt purse.
This food was there quick enough, before his cider could finish. The knight asked for a re-fill as he piled up some peas on his spoon. Chewing what he had just entered in his mouth, he pinned the meat with the fork next to him.
He continued with his dinner and his cider as a man sat across from him. By his looks he looked like a noble. Theo bowed to him slightly and swallowed what was in his mouth to say, "Hello, Sir." This man was no other than the famous and brave Romuluas.
