Your Name: You can call me Jace
Character's Name: Arin Artis
Age and Birthday: 17, she doesn't know her birthday
Race: Tortallan(sp?)
Social Standing: streetrat
Profession: Pickpocket and roof-walker/petty house thief
Place of Residence: The cellar of an old building, the other residents don't wanna be found by the Dogs any more than they do so they don't tell anybody about the band of orphans.
Magic (if applicable): none and couldn't care less either way.
Family: Her 'brothers' Jake and Aden and her 'sister' Ailyn. None of them are related but they are all family.
Physical Description: long black hair in a low horse-tail, black breeches and patched white shirt that were her older "brother's", barefoot. At 5'5 she's not tall but she's thin as a rail and fast for her age. She has cold gray eyes hardened by a life on the streets and which make her seem to have no compassion whatsoever. She has a scar that runs along her jawbone on the right side of her not-to-pale-not-too-tan, oval face. She has high cheekbones and a straight nose that has miraculously escaped being broken over the years. She got her scar from a rusher who thought it'd be fun to beat up a streetrat, the other three came running and the man came away with the worst of it. She weighs little and what weight she does have is all muscle and bone with little to no fat. Some might call her wiry, but definitely not muscular. She has several small scars on her hands from brushing hidden weapons while slipping her fingers into pockets or from barely pulling her hand away in time to avoid a sudden attack with dagger or sword.
Personality: She's reckless, cocky and usually angry. Don't wake her up or else you'll end up beaten black and blue. She likes to fight and argue but there are days when she's just too lazy to do so. She's often tense with strangers but she and the others like to joke around when they're together. She got into a lot of trouble during the few times that a Dog woke her up while she was napping against a wall. She's been in and out of trouble with the Dogs for years and is a well known face among them. She's expert at weaseling her way out of capture and/or imprisonment, with her speed and agility. She has a talent for watching a target for a couple of minutes and figuring out how best to distract them. She's a horrible liar and prefers to be blunt rather than attempting to participate in idle chit-chat. Her best tactic for getting out of trouble is to knock 'em down and run away. She says she has no interest in boys, can't with this life, but somewhere deep down we all know she really does. Aden in particular but she doesn't know it yet...XD
History: grew up on the streets of the Lower City with her "family", three other kids and a large black dog with golden eyes named Chief. They've lived on the streets as long as any of them could remeber and actually met when a 7 year old Arin tried to steal recently aquired money from Jake and the resulting chase knocked the other two over. She and the others are pickpockets and petty theives and all are good at hand to hand fighting. They're constantly avoiding the authorities (The Dogs if they're still around). Her "Family" consists of a boy a year older than her named Jake, a boy her age named Aden, and a girl a year a younger than her named Alyn. Arin found Chief when she was 5 years old, he was a puppy lying in the gutter in the middle of a storm and she almost tripped over him while running for some kind of shelter. Being young she had picked him up and taken him with her, he's followed her around ever since. She'd gone hungry for days at a time to feed the pup but had never truly been starving as she had a knack for always finding something. For a couple of years a man named Shawn, who grew up an orphan himself and knew how hard it was to survive, took care of them and taught them the skills needed for survival on the streets before he was killed in a barroom brawl. The four sought vengeance but were halted by a group of Dogs. The authorities have come to call the four of them the Lower City 'Rat Pack', which often makes them laugh. She broke a Dog's wrist once while attempting to escape, but his partner got her as she ran down the street. Jake and the others ambushed the two later on and got her away from them. The four of them take turns roaming the streets, usually at night, and Chief goes with all of them. She likes to have a challenge every now and then, which means stealing from somebody better suited to catching her. Sometimes she gets away, sometimes she doesn't. She'll snag things from stalls as she goes by and grin as the stallkeepers yell at her but are too afraid of other theives to chase her down. The only thing she and the others believe in is their own strength and eachother, no gods or goddesses that others call to when they get into trouble. They don't really work for anyone, but they will take a commission robbery if it pays enough. The Rogue's tried to hire them several times but he's too greedy to pay the price they set for the jobs he wants. Jake has been attempting to get an honest aprenticeship for some time now, mainly in a smithy though he has looked at tanners and such.
Role Play Sample: Arin wandered through the streets of Lower City as the day's light began to fade, looking for those foolish enough to come here without their hands constantly at their weapons. Trotting with her was her large black dog Chief, snuffling at any scents he found that he was unfamiliar with. She saw a young man ahead that was idiotic enough to have his moneybag where all could see. She nudged Chief in that direction and the mutt bounded up to the youth, planting his muddy paws on the boy's shoulder's and giving his face a thorough licking. While the young man was distracted Arin deftly slid her fingers into his belt pouch and was rewarded by the feel of a few coppers and a silver noble.
Fool. She thought with a grin as she started back down the street, carefully sliding the coins into a special pouch hanging on a leather strip around her neck and hidden under the over-sized shirt. Chief soon joined her and they continued on the the music of the crowd's laughter as the youth discovered his money gone.
"The Streetrat got you boy." A man guffawed as girl and mutt ducked into an alley and disappeared into the growing twilight.
