Your Name: Anna
Character's Name: Luella "Birdie" Dashwood
Age and Birthday: 19, May 3rd
Race: 1/2 Carthaki, 1/2 Tortallan
Social Standing: Common
Profession: Dog - Evening Watch - Lower City
Place of Residence: The Lower City
Magic (if applicable): Birdie doesn't have the Gift, which gives her family another reason to despise her, as all her other sisters are Healers. She pretends not to care, but in reality she is envious of those with the Gift. She figures she wouldn't be accepted even if she did have the Gift and she tries not to let on that she's bothered by it.
Family:
Father - Edwin Dashwood - a mostly loving father, who spends most of his time between jobs, relying on his sisters and daughters for financial support.
Mother - Anisha Dashwood - Anisha was the reason that her husband Edwin was outcast from his family for the year that he was married to her. She was a minor healer from Carthaki, and the Dashwoods were not very tolerate of other races.
Sisters - Eliana (Ellie) & Clarabel (Clara) Dashwood - Birdie's half-sisters are reasonably nice to her quite a lot of the time, but think of her as below them because of her profession and Giftlessness. They are 15 and 12 years in age.
Step-mother - Sara Dashwood - Sara is an honest sort of person, who won't pretend that she loves her step-child. Most of the time she ignores Birdie, treating her as either invisable or a servant. Birdie, always cautious that she is on her best behaviour when she is around her family, tries to ignore the way she is treated. Only once has she refused anything her step-mother asked, and she was nearly thrown out of the house.
Physical Description: Birdie has a boyish figure, thin and fairly flat-chested, but she doesn't attempt to change anything about herself. She is only about 5"4, but hasn't stopped growing yet, or so she hopes.
Her face is unremarkable, but a queer compromise between a dark Carthaki colour and the comparitively pale Tortallan colour. On it seems to be a permanent scowl. Her hair is not quite blonde, not quite brown, perhaps a sort or chestnut colour. It is long and straight, but usually tied back out of her way. She has a fringe which she is forever brushing out of her dark green eyes.
When she isn't wearing her Dog uniform, she prefers breeches to skirts and dresses and will only wear them in special cases. She rarely bothers to worry about her clothes, so they are often grubby and creased.
Personality: Birdie has a short temper, and will often lose it. She is contrary and moody, sometimes preferring to be in a big group, with one or two special people or by herself. Most of the time, though, she distances herself from the main group, and therefore does not have many friends. The only people who could never make her angry would be the birds. Although she can't talk to them with any sort of Gift or Wild Magic, she likes to pretend she can.
On patrol she is fierce, letting all her anger out on the first criminals she can find. Occasionally she makes rash descisions, which gets her in to trouble a lot, but she is very good at her job. She is fascinated by the Court of the Rogue, and has decided that should she ever have to leave her profession as a Dog, she would like to be a rogue.
History: Birdie was born almost exactly on her parents first wedding anniversary. One year previously, when her father had married her mother, he had become outcast by his sisters, and was therefore reliant on his new wife for money, food, clothing and shelter. When she fell pregnant they were shifted from home to home, and eventually from abandoned basement to abandoned basement. Her mother fell ill and died during childbirth.
Just two months later her father married Sara, and his sisters began to support him again. Sara almost convinced Birdie's father that he should throw the baby out, but he insisted that she must stay. Sara gave birth to Eliana Dashwood and then later, Clarabel. Although Birdie was never really loved, she was given food and shelter. That was all she knew she needed.
Her nickname was given to her when she became a Puppy, searching for some way to make her own money. The other Puppies noticed that she was forever sitting with the birds, talking to them, feeding them. Since it was a better name then Luella, Birdie accepted it, and soon almost everybody called her that.
She became a Dog just one year ago, which was quite young, and was partnered with ________ (note... looking for partner!) She has mixed feelings about being a Dog. She likes the money, not having to live with her family and fighting crime, but she always feels like a loner amongst the other Dogs.
Role Play Sample: Birdie drank her water slowly in the corner of the bar, watching her partner talking easily to the other Dogs. She didn't feel... jealous, exactly, she just wanted to know why. Why did she like so few people? Was she that hard to get along with? The other Dogs gulped down their liquor, making the girl want to throw up for them. More questions erupted into her head, but she pushed them out again. She didn't want questions at the moment.
Sometimes she wondered if she would have preferred Day Watch, in some other, less "exciting" district. At least then she wouldn't have to sit here in the early hours of the morning, listening to the laughter of everybody except her. Have I ever laughed? She asked herself, trying to remember what it sounded like, one that wasn't sarcastic of course.
