Character's Name: Prince Aiden of Tellech
Age and Birthday: 27, September 18th
Race: Gallan
Social Standing: Prince, third son of Galla's king and queen
Profession: diplomat, a member of the Gallan delegation to Tortall
Place of Residence: Royal Palace, in the rooms allotted to members of foreign parties
Magic: No magic. Aiden is content to be Gift-less, though he is quite interested by its uses and loves to talk with mages.
Family: Aiden is the fourth of the six royal children born to Queen Talea and King Queren. His brother, Aravic, older than Aiden by almost seven years, is the heir to the Gallan throne, while his brother Queren, named for their father, will inherit the family estate of Tellech. Loully, his sister, older by two years is married to a wealthy noble and lives with her husband. Aiden’s brother Tiemo and his sister Diera are twenty-one and nineteen respectively.
Physical Description: Aiden is a tall man, at about six feet and three inches. He has long legs and a strong build. His black hair frames a pale, slightly angular face. His nose is thin, almost blade like, which fits his face shape well enough, though, being slightly proud, Aiden dislikes drawing attention to his ears, which he feels are a bit too large in proportion to his head. This self-conscious nature in regards to his ears leads him to allow his hair to grow slightly wavy and longer than is conventional. When someone’s thinking outside of traditional standards, he could easily be considered handsome.
Aiden dresses, in a relatively simple fashion. He always follows Court fashions carefully but believes that subtlety is more effective than gaudy baubles.
Personality: Aiden is a relaxed, easygoing man with a ready sense of humor. He enjoys reading, particularly folk tales and histories. Despite his seemingly docile nature, he has a slightly sarcastic streak that he often uses in both social and political encounters. Although he doesn’t look for confrontation, Aiden does not hesitate to dive into any fight he sees as worthwhile, and finds great joy in friendly debate. Besides reading, Aiden enjoys riding, chess, and occasional bouts swordplay and finds particular pleasure in battles of wit. Despite having grown up in the Gallan court, he is irked by obvious pompousness (which is all to common among members of his branch of society) and has no patience for such shows.
Being a good conversationalist and speaker helps Aiden gain respect from various courtiers, yet his intent is often difficult to discern, especially when he is interacting with women. The light, almost playful manner in which he usually converses with female courtiers can all to easily be labeled as flirtation and has been known to cause him trouble. Although he is generally easygoing, he can be stubborn and needs someone to deflate his ego every so often. Aiden, as the third son, has been able to enjoy the luxuries of being royalty without having to spend much time actually studying the skills needed to be a king. As he was raised knowing very little but his current life, he tends to take his station for granted at times.
History: Aiden was born at the family estate of Tellech, from which his family gets its name. During his early years, Aiden took part in many of the typical Court activities, riding, practicing archery and swordplay and learning etiquette. As the fourth child of the royal family, he was relatively free to do as he wished without obligation to his country. Unlike his elder brothers, Aiden did not elect to train as a warrior and chose instead to study at the Gallan University. Because he did not possess the Gift, his schedule left plenty of room for studying literature and history. Along with these courses, Aiden also studied diplomacy and, at age 25 and to a mixed bag of reactions from his relatives, he joined the Gallan delegation to Tortall, which was sent out in order to secure positive relations with Queen Emeli of Conté.
Never having left Galla prior to this journey, Aiden was both excited and hesitant to take such a long committing job so far from his family, yet as he stayed longer in Tortall, he began to adapt nicely to the lifestyle and grew comfortable with life in the Tortallan Court. He still keeps up a regular correspondence with his family in Galla and has thus far mentioned nothing about returning in the near future.
Role Play Sample: Aiden glanced about the ballroom, enjoying the lively colors of the various courtiers. He noticed with a smile, the small pack of young men that had surrounded Queen Emeli, as usual and wondered if he should take pity on her and ask her for a dance. As one young cove decided to make a regular fool of himself praising the Queen, Aiden’s resolve was sealed. He was in need of some entertainment and thus far, the Queen’s pack seemed to be doing a good job of providing that. Pity that the Queen wasn’t expressing any obvious signs of boredom, as the lovesick, or powersick, group completely missing her hints would complete the amusing scene. Ah well, life couldn’t provide satisfaction for every one of his whims.
