Your Name: well it certainly isn’t Tink
Character's Name: Sahele Spinner
Age and Birthday: Not entirely sure of his birth date, but probably around the age of twenty-seven. No idea what his birthday is, but according to the local fortune teller, he has the characteristics of one born early in August.
Race: Carthaki—from southern Carthak
Social Standing: poor. Not a penny to his name
Profession: Player, as an actor/acrobat. The troupe of Players he is in--along with Illia's character--stays in Tortall due to our shameless bending of canon.
Place of Residence: shares a small one-room lodging with another player (an NPC--let's say Joesh, so I don't have to get creative)
Magic (if applicable): none; he says often that he would have no use for it.
Family: He doesn't remember his father at all, and his mother is a hazy memory. However, he's unfazed by this; he considers his fellow Players his family. He does have a large dog who he considers a brother. The dog has various nicknames, but his "official" name is Tiny. (Sometimes he's affectionately called names which are usually some variant of "Squeak" or "Beartrap" by various others in the Players.) The more superstitious of the town believe that he is a demon enchanted to follow Sahele around; however, the dog is truly a dog (although Sahele swears he has a bear in his ancestry somewhere--to anyone who'll listen) who simply loves Sahele for freeing him from a hunter’s trap.
Physical Description: Very dark-skinned. He has a big mouth with full lips and a broad, flat nose with wide nostrils. He keeps his head shaved. He is very tall and has wide shoulders. He smiles easily and often, showing light teeth that contrast with his dark skin.
Dark eyes, big hands and big feet so he doesn't overbalance. One of the bigger players--he's the tallest of them. He isn't fat, but rather muscled--it'd be hard for him to survive in the Players if he weren't fit, especially as an acrobat.
His eyes aren't particularly noticeable, other than the fact that they are usually smiling even if his mouth is not. All of his features work together to make him look extremely good-natured and laid back.
Personality: Playful; a child at heart. He often plays with the children of the town, giving a puppet show or performing simple acrobatic tricks. He laughs with little provocation. However slow to anger he is, when he does get angry he explodes. He will stand up for the weak and anyone he feels is being mistreated. Because of this, he is rather easy to manipulate. He has no idea how to read or write, although he finds the concept intriguing. Sahele is loyal; growing up in the Player troupes has bred that in him. He is a good friend to have, because he is extremely intimidating (being so tall and all). Most who know him adore him, although he is known to hold a grudge against someone who has broken his trust. He makes the people of the town his business; he tries to know everyone at once.
He never takes anything too seriously, unless it involves death or pain of a loved one (or anyone, really). This typically includes romance. He flirts teasingly and enjoys the company of a pretty girl, but has never been one for any serious kind of relationship. Any girl he gets along with that well would most likely be a friend, someone he never really for non-platonic reasons. He's never really had--or even thought about--a relationship past a fling.
Sahele treats slaves like equals. While he is, at times, overly respectful of the upper-class, slaves just seem like everyone else to him. He respects people of learning from a distance, but once meeting them he sometimes finds that they are a bit too stuffy for his taste. Sahele can be slightly superstitious at times, which causes him to be slightly wary of those with the Gift. It is simply a little unnerving to him, so it isn't much of a problem.
History: He isn’t quite sure of his life before he was six or so. He says that he might remember a mother at some point, but never a father. Sahele also isn’t sure how he came to Tortall. He thinks that his mother might have brought him there and perhaps raised him for a while. She must have either died or abandoned him, but he doesn't remember that far back. No one really knows what happened, but it doesn’t seem to bother Sahele that much.
He wandered throughout towns, begging for food. That went on until a Player found him and took him into the camps to give him a hot meal, feeling sorry for him. That same Player (NPC ATM) started to teach him some basic acrobatics. Finding that Sahele had a talent for said acrobatics, he became a permanent member of the troupe. He grew up with them, finding that they were as tightly knit as a family, except with more diversity and a stranger idea of fun. Somewhere along the line, Sahele adopted the surname "Spinner".
Role Play Sample:
Triumph.
He could feel a broad smile stretching across his face as he completed the routine. It was a crowd thriller, with fantastic flips with all the acrobats working together to produce a dazzling effect. Mithros, he loved to perform.
The crowd was going crazy, throwing coins at the stage. He and his fellow players gathered them and headed off. Sahele wiped the back of his hand across his forehead, still smiling like an idiot. The best high was after a show like this, a new one for a new audience. They were still cheering.
Sahele was never sure what to do after a fantastic performance like that. There was nothing that could beat the high of a great show. Usually he headed to a tavern for a few drinks, perhaps his arm around something sweet. For some reason, that didn’t particularly agree with him that day, despite his friends’ badgering.
“What more could you want?” asked Joesh, a fellow acrobat who was notable for never missing an opportunity to celebrate with alcohol and women.
Sahele laughed. “Not much.” Joesh looked at him expectantly, with an eyebrow raised. Sahele grinned lopsidedly.
“You win."
