Your Name: Molly
Character's Name: Noah Callum
Age and Birthday:46, July 16
Race: Tortallan
Social Standing: Noble; formerly of a wealthy merchant family and was ennobled upon receiving position of Provost. He was given the fief of Coldbrook in eastern Tortall.
Profession: Lord Provost
Place of Residence: The palace in Corus
Magic (if applicable): Noah has not a drop to speak of and he doesn’t care a bit. He finds it annoying and thinks most mages are pompous.
Family:
Father- Rhys: An elderly merchant who still runs his very profitable business with his sons. He didn’t want to go into retirement when his wife died.
Mother- Selma: Was a kind, caring woman. She died eight years ago.
Brother- Jai: He is helping father run the family business and will be the one to take over when Rhys dies.
Brother- Darren: He is also helping father run business and does most of the traveling for the family.
Wife- Layla: She no longer lives with her husband, the result of an affair six years ago. He was gracious enough to allow her some possessions and money before sending her away to the country. Son- Kieran: Noah’s twenty-three year old son lives in Corus making a living as a Provost’s Dog.
Physical Description: Noah is younger than he appears. His dirty blonde hair is slightly more than peppered with gray. He forgoes the option to get his hair cut often, and as a result is a shaggy mess. It goes suitably well with his scruff of a beard. Noah has a relatively average build and height. He is only 5'10" and weighs roughly 185. Most of his weight consists of the muscles he has earned over the years. Though some of the more recent weight, may have been contributed by fat. It is his commanding disposition that makes people assume he is much larger. His dark eyes hold many secrets and reveal nothing. What Noah keeps hidden under his clean-cut tunic are his various scars. They were earned through many encounters with drunken men when he was serving as a Dog.
Personality: Despite once being a Dog, Noah was a fun, easy-going man until his wife’s betrayal. For some time after that, a smile on his face was rare. More recently, he appears to be acting a bit like his old self. Of course, because of his job he won’t be the man he was. He takes it very seriously and will not let anything interfere with his performance in that area. Noah likes to be very active in the happenings on the streets of Corus. He often goes out to visit his people in the kennels, just to check up on them and their work execution. He keeps a tight ship not only for his organization but in the hopes that will bring respect.
When he wants, Noah can have a very wry sense of humor. He rarely exhibits that and only on closest friends and family. He and his brother, Darren, especially love to make jokes together. When in Court and around nobles, Noah is very courteous. He is often seen as distant, but in reality just doesn’t want to be bothered. He doesn’t care much for the small intrigues of Court and tends to avoid it as much as possible. Not being raised as a noble is partly an influence in this matter. He is a quick study but there is still much of court life he does not know or wish to learn. Noah prefers to be among the commoners and stick with his own work.
If someone is so lucky to engage in a long conversation with Noah, they will find his views a bit odd. Noah often takes strange sides in political matters. He favors the right course of action over the popular one. There are always some sticklers who don't agree with him and the wish to become 'less than friends'.
History: Noah had a fairly normal childhood growing up in the Patten District of Corus. He was the second son of a rich merchant. Instead of wanting to go into the family business like his brothers, Noah was more interested in the Dogs that roamed the streets. He admired them and wished very much to become one.
When he was finally old enough, Noah became a Puppy. His training went by with its fair share of troubles. It was nothing he couldn’t handle. After several years of being a Dog, Noah was promoted to a Watch Sergeant. He rose through the ranks to become the District Commander of Prettybone District. After holding that position for seven years, he was once again promoted to Vice Provost.
The years as Noah spent as Vice Provost were some of the toughest of his life. After one late evening, Noah came home to find his wife was having an affair with one of his Dogs. He did not want to be disgraced any further, so he sent her away to live in the country. At first, they told everybody she was visiting relatives. When it became apparent Layla wasn't coming back, a good amount of time had passed and most forgot about Noah's wife. The Dog chose to leave and accompany Layla. Noah gave his son, Kieran, the choice to leave or stay. Kieran had already started his Puppy training and chose to stay with his father. In the six years since she left, Noah has not heard from his wife. This does not affect him very much. In the first months, the separation was hard, but he learned to accept it and moved on. Noah has not seen anyone since his wife left and keeps a strictly business relationship most other women in his life.
Four years ago, the Lord Provost announced his retirement and that Noah would be taking over. Since then, Noah has lived in the Palace, fulfilling his duties. Since he knew the former Provost well and his system, Noah has had a fairly easy time as of yet. He also chose to keep the same system in place, knowing and liking how it works. He realizes, as the former Provost did, the need to work with the Court of the Rogue. He likes the old system of the Happy Bags and collects weekly. He takes a slightly larger sum from them then he does others because he knows the Rogue can afford to pay. With his many years of experience, he knows that trouble is never far away and is confident he can handle whatever comes his way.
Role Play Sample: “Excuse me, m’lord,” the young Dog addressed Noah. He raised his eyebrows, silently asking what the young cove wanted. He had to be getting on with his day but didn’t want to discourage his men from talking with him, so Noah waited. The lad still looked like he was trying to find his words. Noah knew he could seem intimidating, but at least the Dog could have spoken by now.
“What is your name?” Noah asked gruffly.
“F-Finn,” the man sputtered.
“Well, Finn, would you mind very much in saying what you would like to? I’m on a tight schedule,” Noah said while placing a hand on the man’s shoulder. Looking slightly embarrassed, Finn leaned toward the larger man’s ear. Noah bent down to hear what the Dog whispered. Upon hearing it, he grinned slightly. “Let’s take a walk.”
