Your Name: May.
Character's Name: Annikka haMinch, known as Niki, Annie and other riffs on that theme for short.
Age and Birthday: Twenty-three years of age, her birthday is the third of June.
Race: Tortallan noble.
Social Standing: A noble, but the third-youngest daughter of a large family.
Profession: Head Healer at the Palace, which she occasionally says restricts her from healing anything other than noble coughs and colds and pages' bruises.
Place of Residence: A couple of rooms near the healers' wing that she only just moved into.
Magic (if applicable): A pale green, fairly strong Gift. She is quite proud of being the only person other than her mother in her immediate family with the Gift, but is wary of the damage it can do.
Family: A very, very large family; lots of uncles, aunts and cousins. She also has five siblings, two sisters and three brothers. She is closer to the younger two brothers, Simeon and Mikal, than the other members of her family and resents her sisters' and her other brother's matchmaking attempts. She isn't close to her father, and her reluctance to marry for the not unreasonable reason that she doesn't know anybody she wants to marry irritates her mother Eloise, whom Annikka studiously avoids.
Physical Description: Annikka is of average height, with long, easily tangled, wavy dark hair that she braids. She has pale skin that burns quite easily; she also has a number of freckles. Her eyebrows are very strong and she has long eyelashes and lovely brown eyes (possibly her best feature.) She has a rather sharp nose, decided chin, and a nice smile. She isn't especially slim, but is fit and healthy. She wears whatever happens to be practical and clean at the moment, whether that's a dress or breeches, and wears a lot of green and blue- two of her favourite colours. She likes wearing dresses, but prefers breeches for practicality.
Personality: Observant and clever, Annikka doesn't miss a lot. She often lacks tact, and is quite sharp-tongued. She is new to her job, and just getting used to it, but is slowly acquiring an air of command. She is slightly daunted by the queen and princess because she thinks of them as much higher in the social strata than she is and is generous, but not to a fault. She is very practical. She likes the seaside and the mountains, but dislikes the sandy desert; she enjoys the company of other healers and despises snobbery. In her opinion, it gets in the way of doing more important things. She doesn't like many of the healers' teas around and often complains that people can't be bothered to brew ones that taste nice. She has high standards, but doesn't ask people to do things that she wouldn't do herself. She tries to be considerate but won't tolerate laziness; she disapproves of slavery because of the way she's seen slaves treated -Annikka was brought up to take responsibility for the people who work for her- but is wary of complaining too loudly because she doesn't think she's important enough to make a difference and doesn't want to make things more difficult for the slaves.
History: She was born at the haMinch fief, and lived there until she was ten, tagging along with her brothers and sometimes her older sister. Her family is proud of her as a healer, and has always taken pride in her strong Gift, which is one reason why it was easy for her to persuade them to let her be a healer. Her mother, a woman with a moderate Gift, took care of her magic tutoring until this age, at which point she went to the convent with the stipulation that she was to become a healer and not a Court lady immediately on the lookout for a husband. She didn't enjoy her time there, but it wasn't exactly torture. At the age of sixteen she left the convent, discarding many of the good habits she'd been taught by the sisters, like using handcream before bed, and took up a healer's apprenticeship. This lasted two years, and she then became a junior healer and has worked her way up for the past five years. She has been head healer only four months.
Role Play Sample:
Annikka woke to the sound of the early bell, as usual, and grumbled and moaned to herself about getting up at such a horrible hour as she had done nearly every day of the week for the past seven years. She dressed quickly, splashed her face with water and brushed and braided her hair.
The duty healer in the first ward smiled at her. Making as little noise as possible, Annikka walked over to her and murmured, "Any trouble?"
The healer shook her head. "Nice and quiet. The Marti's Hill boy's fever broke late last night, and the soldier at the end needs his bandages changing again, but other than that... all quiet."
