Your Name: Ali
Character's Name: Livana Ninoveltz
Age and Birthday: 27, September 4
Race: Tortallan
Social Standing: Upper Middle-Class
Profession: Spymistress
Place of Residence: The Palace of Tortall
Magic (if applicable): Livana has no magic, or none that she's discovered yet. Although the Sight would be a useful tool as spymistress, Livana is "magic free" and thinks highly of those who carry it and treats them in a more highly respectful manner than she would treat an ordinary member of the court.
Family: Livana was born into the house of a tinsmith – her father is Leis Ninoveltz. Her mother – Patresa had given birth to three other children before Livana. The first was a boy, five years older than Livana, named Leis, after his father. The second was a girl, three years older than Livana, named Natalyn. Finally Dacia, another girl, was born, only one year older than Livana. She was closest to Livana in many aspects as well as similar in personality.
Never visiting her family after becoming a spy, she is distant with the Ninoveltzes, and the only visible connection is the sharing of the last name. The distance of her family has, surprisingly, never bothered Livana, although they have tried to keep in contact.
Physical Description: Livana has a petite built, making the term “scrawny” become the usual term to describe her by most. She only reaches five feet and two inches, making her ideal for sneaking about and spying. Her complexion is plain, although pretty. She has light skin covered with freckles, although her face is almost cleared of them. There are a few cuts on her hands here and there, nothing large. Her long copper-colored hair reaches down to a bit above the center of her back. Usually it is worn in a braid, but any style that keeps her hair out of her face is frequently worn. Her ears – in her opinion – are far too small to look normal; even so, they reach any ordinary size. Her nose looks Tortallan and her lips are a thin with a light pink shade. Her eyes are a light jadish color, matching her light complexion.
Livana usually wears simple dresses of lighter colors – white, lavender, and light blue are some of her personal favorites. When disguises are needed she accepts them with no problem. Never keeping up with the latest fashions, she wears no jewelry, usually finding that it gets in the way. She only wears a brown cloth wrapped around her left hand, hiding a bad scar she received while doing work.
Personality: Livana is clever and tricky, doing underhanded business all the time – even business she keeps forbidden and completely secret. Although Livana is an excellent spymistress, she is a perfectionist and tends to be too strict about work. She can manipulate almost anyone she wants to, whether it’s someone she is bargaining with or teaching new spies how it’s done. While known for being a perfectionist and over-serious throughout the court, she is looked up to by many for her powerful attitude towards work. Loosening up to new ideas is illogical for Livana. Parties “just-for-fun” seem foolish, though she is respectful when she is attending one. She feels as if she needs to keep a hard shell; letting others into her deepest emotions will make others think she is weak – even though she feels ordinary emotions.
Thanks to Kally, I'm adding her work ethic here, as it seems most fitting.
Livana takes work extremely seriously, though she finds it surprisingly fun. Stealth is something entertaining and interesting in her life. While working others to an almost dangerous extreme, she keeps cool when spying herself. The task of plotting and planning is tedious, but sometimes enjoyable. Spying is hard work, though for Livana it's taken lightly. As for the others who have to obey her well...
History: Livana Ninoveltz was born into a common family just outside the palace of Tortall. Never quite getting along with her two oldest siblings she usually kept to herself. While out in the marketplace, she was stopped by a stranger she had never seen before. The stranger explained himself as a spy. He had been wacthing her for weeks, trying to find new spies. After being offered a job, Livana graciously accepted. Only a small job, but it was something – after all, she was just seventeen. Livana left her family to work for the spies. Working much more seriously than most spies among here, she was quickly noticed by the spymaster at the time. seeing as the Dowager Queen didn't have a personal spy, Livana received the job for five years. At twenty-four, she was named spymistress and has been for three years.
While holding her job as a spy, she learned to use daggers quite well and is working on improving her swordplay skills.
Role Play Sample:
Livana waited impatiently for the new spy to meet her. She tapped her shoe obnoxiously, not caring if she disturbed others in the courtyard. Giving introductions wasn’t something she enjoyed – everyone knew who she was anyway. She had told the amateur to be at the fountain of the naked woman by noon sharp. Ignoring the fact that fountains of naked women were popular sculptures, she couldn’t possibly understand how the new spy could be late. From the spy’s name, he seemed to be noble born. Going over to the marble bench to sit, Livana thought to herself, The boy is probably off with three doxies right now for all I know. With a roll of her eyes, she stayed on, still waiting.
Once the young man showed up, it was minutes after the half hour. Seeing his new instructor, he rushed over to her, his blonde hair blowing in the wind he created.
“I’m sorry I’m late, m’am, I-” he began to explain as Livana interrupted him.
“Could you kindly tell me what time it is?” Livana asked in a false kind tone.
Knowing the spy mistress was going to scold him, he replied shakily, “about quarter to one, ma’am.”
“Yes, it is,” Livana went on, nodding. “And what time did I ask you to be here?”
“Noon, m’am, I’m quite sorry, I-” he attempted to explain quickly.
“Well, timing is quite important while spying. Your name?”
“Lucas of Armana,” the boy answered, still shaking slightly.
Tightening her grey-green eyes, Livana questioned him again.
“How old are you?”
“Twenty.”
Twenty, Livana thought to herself. And he can’t even be on time…Gods, what is this world coming to?
EDIT: I noticed a typo while reading this over.
